Liquid Gold

I finally ordered a full size container of Goldilux from Sugarpill and absolutely had to play with it. It's the most amazing eye shadow I've ever seen. For this look I first lined my eyes with Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner in Honey. Then I covered my lids and lined my lower lashes with Goldilux. For some added sparkle I used Sephora's glitter eyeliner in Gold on my upper lids. As usual, the picture doesn't do it justice.

And then I also did this to my hair since I was going to see The Hunger Games.

Pink and Glittery

I ordered some new Sugarpill shadows the other day and they sent me a sample of Magentric with it and OMG I'm madly in love. It also goes perfectly with my recent Urban Decay purchase of their 24/7 liner in Woodstock and my Heavy Metal glitter in Distortion. Here's a quick step by step for the look.

First I coated my lids in Urban Decay's Primer Potion, then I lined my eyes with Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner in Woodstock.

Next I went over the liner with Sugarpill's Magentric.

Then I put foundation, blush, eyebrow power and mascara on. I used Covergirl Last Blast Luxe on my upper lashes and Lash Blast Length on the lower lashes.

I completed the look with Urban Decay Heavy Metal Distortion on the corners of my eyes and some Hard Candy Lash Tinsel (color tba).

Ta-da!!!

Honestly these pictures don't do it justice. The pink is really vibrant and shimmery (it's barbie pink with a slight purple shimmer) and the glitter liner sparkles a lot. They've easily become some of my favorite products.

I love how vibrant the Urban Decay 24/7 liners can be, however I prefer to sample them before buying. I say this because while I love most of the colors, Ransom really leaves something to be desired. However, the metallic colors more than make up for it. I use Lucky on a regular basis for a natural copper look. They also slide on really smooth. This is great for the most part however they are harder to use on the inner lash line, especially if you have eyes prone to watering like mine. I usually put eye shadow over these to set the liner and smooth out the color. I don't think it's absolutely necessary, just a personal preference.

The MAC Liquidlast liners are great but you have to be extremely precise because there's no fixing it. It takes some intense make up remover and serious rubbing to remove that liner.

I use the Milani pencils all the time (which is a little sad because I have no idea where I got them so I'm not positive I can still replace them). The green is a little darker than I would like however it's a great base under brighter green eye shadow.

I'm not a big fan of the Hot Topic liners but I keep them around because occasionally they are useful. I just don't like the texture and the glitter is almost non-existent in the black. The aqua, however, is sparkly and pretty.

I love Tulips!

I decided to do a look based on my favorite flower, the tulip. I look forward to spring year round just so I can see all of the yellow, orange and red tulips!  I also did a much more dramatic version by adding eyeshadow to my eyebrows. Obviously it's not really wearable but does it look like I really care?

Please excuse the derpy face, it's a good shot of the makeup.

I was originally planning on doing a step by step for this look but I decided against it. If anyone has specific questions please ask and I will gladly answer. I did however take a picture of all the products I used because although it looks pretty basic, I actually used a lot of stuff to make it work.

Mascara

Ok, so I used to never wear mascara but in the last few years I learned the error of my ways. Mascara is a great way to accent your eyes without looking like you're wearing a lot of makeup. It can also ramp up the sex appeal of a dramatic look. The trick is finding the right mascara.

A couple years ago I bought a sample pack of mascaras from Sephora. I'd list everything it had in it but I know I've thrown several away over time for various reasons. I'm honestly shocked by the conclusion that sample set lead me to- expensive mascara apparently sucks. There's only 2 brands out of the whole pack that I liked enough to use regularly. Everything else was either too clumpy, not obvious enough or had a bad applicator. My 2 favorites from the set were benefit Bad gal lash and Buxom Lash. Buxom is what I've used in most of my looks on here. It's good for dramatic, full lashes.

However, the best mascaras I've found are department store brands. Right now I'm in love with Covergirl mascaras. The lash blast length creates long, individual lashes without looking too much like you're wearing mascara. It comes out very smooth and natural looking. I have this in brown and black. I use the brown for more subtle daytime looks and on my bottom lashes and the black as a lengthening base for volumizing mascara. Which gets me to the last blast luxe, which is wonderful for volume without clumping. It's supposed to be a little shimmery and I'm not sure about that aspect but it does create a very full, sexy lash.

And then there's the glitter mascara :-D I've owned Femme Couture Lightning lash in gold for awhile and it's nice but leaves something to be desired. It has a regular mascara applicator so it's really easy to end up picking up the base mascara, rather than leaving glitter on the lashes. I've starting just dabbing it onto the ends of my lashes to get the most glitter. Unfortunately, even doing this the glitter still doesn't stand out very well. More recently I've purchased some Hard Candy Lash Tinsel from Wal-Mart and I'm absolutely in love with it. The applicator is just a bar so you can just dab the glitter onto your lashes and you get tons of glitter. I have been using the purple and silver glitters a lot lately. The silver really stands out and creates a dramatic look. The purple is darker so it's less obvious and really only stands out when you blink and it catches the light.

Over the next week or two I'm going to do shower tests with my favorite mascaras. I'll post pictures to share just how waterproof the different brands are. I got the idea a couple days ago when I showered after trying out my new Lash Blast Length on one eye and the Luxe on my other. I know most people are looking for waterproof mascara but I think anyone that's done costume makeup would be interested in mascara that runs as well.

Mardi Gras Party

This weekend I went to a mardi gras themed party so I did some over the top makeup :-D I didn't get step by step pictures but it was a pretty easy process.

I primed both eyes with Urban Decay's Primer potion. Then I covered my upper lids with Tattooed by Glamour Doll Eyes. I pressed some black Make Up For Ever Star powder into my crease and lightly blended it. Then I took my Urban Decay gold eyeliner and lined around my whole eye, then blended Sugarpill's Goldilux into it. I also used the goldilux on my brow bone as a highlight. I finished up by using Covergirl Lash blast length mascara in brown on my upper and lower lashes, then I used Buxom Lash in black on the upper lashes. Finally I used purple Hard Candy Lash tinsel on the upper lashes and gold glitter on the lower lashes.

For some added drama I decided to use my green glitter. To apply it I just made dots with Glamour Doll Eyes Foil me then pressed the glitter into it and brushed off the excess after it dried.

New Italian Mask Inspired Look

I recently visited Disney World and in the Italian section of Epcot I found a store full of masks. Needless to say I had to buy one. Also, since I haven't updated since Christmas I thought I should do a makeup look to go with it.

Sorry I didn't take step by step photos like usual, however this was pretty easy so hopefully basic instructions will be fine.

First I coated my upper lids with Urban Decay Shadow Primer potion, then I blended Make Up Forever Star Powder in black all over my upper lid. Next I used Glamour Doll Eyes Foil me to make a line on my lower lid then blended Glamour Doll Eyes Tattooed into it. I used the foil me then powder on one eye, then the other rather than priming both eyes at once. If the stuff dries too much you can't blend into it. Then I used Tattooed over the black on my upper lid. As a highlight I used Sugarpill's Hysteric and blended it into the purple liner and on the outside edges of the black. I finished the look with black mascara and Hard Candy's Lash Tinsel glitter mascara in purple. For my lips I used Victoria Secret's Very Sexy gloss in Dare with Sugarpill's Goldilux blended into it.

I tried to get a closer picture but the sun was making my eyes water so I didn't get a very good pic.
